Wesley Farnsworth — Podcast Recap: The Kimberly Cloud Show
If you’ve ever felt the pressure to “look the part” spiritually while wrestling with private doubts or habits, this conversation on The Kimberly Cloud Show will feel uncomfortably familiar and, hopefully, deeply hopeful.
In a candid, 30-minute interview, I share how growing up as a pastor’s kid shaped my inner life, how codependency hollowed out my identity, and how God used others and Celebrate Recovery to begin honest, sustained transformation.
We also discuss my work as a U.S. Air Force photojournalist, including photographing President Obama’s second inauguration and my deployment to Afghanistan. and how those high-stakes moments reframed my purpose, gratitude, and sense of calling.
Programming note: The episode is available to stream now and will also air on DCTV (Washington, DC) in November (final date TBA). I’ll update this post once the broadcast slot is confirmed.
When “Performing Faith” Replaces Knowing God
I learned early how to read a room and present myself in a way that I thought people wanted to see. That people-pleasing impulse, codependency by another name, slowly displaced my own convictions. It’s a subtle shift: you don’t wake up and decide to be a chameleon; you just stop hearing your own voice. In the episode, I explain how that silence made it easy for a 20-year pornography addiction to grow in the dark.
“When things stay in the dark, they become secrets—and secrets give the enemy a foothold. Honesty breaks that power.”
The Turning Point: Celebrate Recovery
Celebrate Recovery isn’t only about drugs or alcohol; it’s a Christ-centered community for any hurt, habit, or hang-up. For me, weekly honesty, clear steps, and consistent accountability changed the trajectory of my life.
Confession wasn’t the scandal—it was the starting line. Over time, light replaced secrecy, and sobriety became less about heroic willpower and more about humble rhythms with people who tell the truth.
Telling the Truth at Home
We also talk about age-appropriate honesty with my kids. Curiosity is human; secrecy is deadly. I encourage my kids to bring questions into the light—to talk with me, their mom, or a trusted leader—so those questions don’t get answered by the internet’s worst impulses.
What War Zones and State Ceremonies Teach You
As a military photojournalist, I captured high ceremony and hard reality—President Obama’s second inauguration in Washington and nine months in Afghanistan. Those experiences taught me two valuable lessons: don’t take ordinary blessings for granted, and don’t underestimate the dignity of people in difficult circumstances. Beauty and brokenness often coexist; purpose is about choosing to serve faithfully in both.
From Skill Set to Service: Why I Started Service Ministries
My academic work in branding and internet marketing now serves a simple aim: helping churches and Christian nonprofits communicate clearly and credibly. In the interview, I outline the heart behind my new non-profit Service Ministries, which exists to help equip leaders with a strong identity, message, and media so the Gospel isn’t obscured by preventable communication gaps.
Denominations, Labels, and Biblical Preaching
I’m less interested in labels than I am in biblical preaching. When I look for a church, I’m listening for Scripture rightly handled, not personality trends or preference wars. Call it old-school, but clarity beats novelty every time.
Guardrails, Not Just Grit
Addictions don’t vanish; they’re managed in the light. I maintain guardrails, filters, and fast exits from questionable spaces, and I send quick texts to my accountability circle. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s prompt honesty. When you move fast toward the light, shame loses its leverage.
Why This Conversation Matters
If you’re tired of performing and ready to become, you don’t need a grand gesture—you need your next faithful step. Write the prayer. Join the group. Tell the truth to one safe person. Transformation is rarely loud, but it is consistently honest.
