All In for Jesus: Pastor Vern Frank’s Testimony of Real Salvation and Calling
When you grow up in church, it’s easy to assume you’re fine with God. You show up on Sundays, sing the songs, and know the language. That was the story for Pastor Vern Frank—until life fell apart and he discovered that being religious and being saved are not the same thing.
In this powerful Pastor Vern Frank testimony, shared on Unmasked with Wesley Farnsworth, we see what happens when a man moves from simply going through the motions to going all in for Jesus. His story is a reminder that God is after our hearts, not our church attendance.
From Religion to Relationship with Jesus
As a teenager, Vern spent years in and out of different denominations, including Lutheran and other traditional churches. He was baptized as a baby, attended services faithfully, and did what was expected on the outside.
But on the inside? He was far from God. He drifted into rebellion, sin, and his own way of living. Like many people raised in Christian culture, Vern didn’t realize he had religion—but not a relationship with Jesus.
His turning point came after a tragic car accident on a dark mountain road. Vern and his girlfriend (now wife) hit a woman who was crossing the highway. She died at the scene. The moment was devastating—not just emotionally, but spiritually. Confronted with death and eternity, Vern could no longer ignore the reality that something was missing in his life.
That crisis cracked open his heart. Suddenly, he was hungry for something real. He didn’t want church activity; he wanted answers.
This is where his journey from religion to relationship with Jesus truly began.
How to Know If You’re Really Saved
A few weeks later, in the early hours of the morning, Vern turned on the TV and landed on a Christian broadcast. A TV evangelist was preaching a simple but powerful message: you must be born again; Jesus must be Lord, not just a concept or tradition.
Right there, around 2 a.m., the evangelist led viewers in a prayer. Vern dropped to his knees in his living room, confessed his sin, and surrendered his life to Christ. He didn’t know all the “right” words. He didn’t have the theology. He just knew one thing: something changed.
The next day, his girlfriend noticed it before he even explained what happened. His speech, his attitude, his priorities—everything was different.
So how do you know if you’re really saved?
From Vern’s story, a few signs stand out:
You move from “adding” Jesus to your life to surrendering your life to Him.
Your desires begin to shift—sin no longer feels comfortable.
People around you see noticeable change, even before you have the language for it.
You develop a hunger for God’s Word, prayer, and being with His people.
Salvation is more than praying a quick prayer. It’s a genuine heart-level surrender that results in a new way of living.
Discerning God’s Call to Ministry
Not long after he was saved, Vern sensed something deeper stirring. As he grew in faith—serving in church, praying, worshiping, and learning the Bible—he developed a strong inner conviction that God was calling him into ministry.
There was no booming voice from heaven. Instead, it was what he describes as a “knowing”—a steady, inner green light that wouldn’t go away. That’s often how discerning God’s call to ministry actually looks in real life:
You have a persistent inner conviction, not just a passing emotional high.
That conviction is confirmed over time through Scripture, spiritual leaders, and fruit in your life.
You’re willing to serve in hidden, unglamorous roles long before any title appears.
For Vern, that meant years of serving in his home church in almost every capacity you can imagine—children’s ministry, youth, worship, prayer, and more. He went to Bible school in Tulsa. He learned to hear God’s voice more clearly, not by chasing signs, but by walking in daily obedience.
Waiting on God’s Timing (Even When It Takes Decades)
Here’s the part many people don’t want to hear: from the time Vern first sensed God’s call to ministry until he stepped into full-time pastoring, over 20 years passed.
In a culture obsessed with quick results and instant platform, his story is a masterclass in waiting on God’s timing:
He managed 7-Eleven stores for years while serving faithfully at church.
He resisted the temptation to abandon ministry and chase more comfortable career paths.
He continued to pray, seek God, and say “yes” whenever the Lord opened a door—even when it didn’t look like the “big” thing he imagined.
At one point, God led Vern and his family from Washington to Iowa to serve as an assistant pastor. It seemed like a detour, but it was actually a step of obedience that positioned him for what came next.
Then, in a way only God could orchestrate, Vern woke up one morning with the name of a specific church and town on his lips—a church in Washington State he had never heard of. A later phone call confirmed that the pastor there had just announced his plans to retire, and someone had prophesied that “a man will call you on Friday to help you.” Vern called on a Friday.
That’s not coincidence. That’s what it looks like when someone chooses to stay all in for Jesus, refusing to bail just because the journey is longer than expected.
A Born Again Story That Still Speaks Today
This episode of Unmasked with Wesley Farnsworth isn’t just another Christian testimony podcast. It’s a raw, honest born again story that tackles some of the questions many believers wrestle with but rarely say out loud:
Is going to church enough?
What if I prayed a prayer as a kid but never saw real change?
How do I know if God is truly calling me—or if it’s just my own ambition?
What do I do if I’ve been waiting for years and nothing seems to be happening?
Through Vern’s journey, we’re reminded that God still saves, still calls, and still directs our steps—even when it takes longer than we’d like.
And we see that hearing God’s voice and calling isn’t reserved for “special” Christians; it’s for anyone willing to clear out the noise, deal with sin honestly, stay in fellowship with God, and obey the next step in front of them.
Final Encouragement
If you’re reading this and wondering where you stand with God—or what He’s asking you to do next—take a moment to pause:
Are you just around Christianity, or have you truly surrendered to Christ?
Are you willing to give God everything, not just Sundays or emergencies?
Is there an area of disobedience or compromise that’s clouding your ability to hear Him?
The same God who met a 19-year-old on his living room floor at 2 a.m. is ready to meet you right where you are. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be honest, surrendered, and willing to say, “Yes, Lord.”
Because when you go all in with Jesus, your story stops being just “religion” and becomes a testimony of God’s grace.
