Changing Your Stars
Episode 19 of Unmasked with Wesley Farnsworth begins a brand-new mini-series designed to confront one of the most damaging beliefs many people carry: the lie that “you can’t change your stars.” It’s a phrase rooted in limitation—spoken by others, whispered internally, or embedded in our environment. And for many of us, it becomes a quiet prison, shaping how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible for our lives.
In this episode, Wesley Farnsworth takes listeners back to a moment in 2019 inside a Celebrate Recovery meeting—a night filled with raw honesty and unexpected clarity. After hearing a testimony that cut deeper than expected, Wesley suddenly remembered a scene from the movie A Knight’s Tale, a moment that had resonated with him long before he understood why.
A young peasant boy dreams of being a knight. His father encourages him, but someone standing nearby slams the door shut on that dream with five crushing words:
“You can’t change your stars.”
In an instant, you can see the boy’s hope collapse. And for many of us, that moment reflects our own stories more than we’d like to admit.
We haven’t all heard that exact sentence, but we’ve heard versions of it:
“You’ll never amount to anything.”
“You’re too broken.”
“People like you don’t change.”
“This is just who you are.”
“Stay in your lane.”
“Don’t forget where you come from.”
Sometimes these labels come from family. Sometimes from friends, teachers, or even church leaders. Sometimes from our own wounded self-talk. And sometimes, they come from the enemy whispering into the most vulnerable parts of our identity.
Over time, those words settle in. They shape how we think. They suffocate our imagination. They shrink our sense of calling. They turn old wounds into permanent ceilings. And slowly, we begin living like peasants instead of royalty—small, quiet, cautious, afraid to hope for more.
But in Episode 19, Wesley reminds listeners of a life-altering truth: God has already declared something different.
Scripture speaks directly to the lies that keep us stuck:
• “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
• “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
• “I am doing a new thing.” (Isaiah 43:19)
These aren’t metaphors. They’re identity statements. They’re declarations that who you’ve been is not who you must remain. They are reminders that God does not revise the old version of you—He creates something new.
Wesley challenges listeners to identify the deeper lies beneath the surface:
• That your past defines you.
• That your mistakes are permanent labels.
• That your story is beyond rewriting.
• That others determine your identity.
• That you don’t deserve better.
• That change is impossible for someone like you.
But the biggest lie of all is this:
“Who you’ve been is who you will always be.”
This belief destroys marriages, faith, identity, calling, and hope. And yet, many people live in its shadow for years.
Wesley shares how God confronted his own identity before anything else changed. Before habits broke. Before healing deepened. Before recovery took root. God began by whispering, “You are not who you think you are.” That same message is one He continues to speak to anyone trapped in old narratives:
You are who I say you are—not who your past says you are.
This episode invites listeners to examine the origins of their internal limitations:
• Who first told you that you can’t change?
• Who convinced you that your identity is fixed?
• Who made you believe that dreaming was dangerous?
• Who taught you to stay small?
• Who made you question your worth or potential?
Once you identify the voice behind the lie, you can begin rejecting it.
Episode 19 is more than encouragement—it’s a reframing of identity.
It’s a reminder that:
• The enemy says you’re stuck. God says you’re in process.
• The enemy says you’re defined by your worst day. God says you’re defined by Christ’s best day.
• The enemy says you’re limited by your beginning. God says you’re transformed by His grace.
This mini-series sets the stage for a deeper exploration of spiritual transformation, and Episode 21 will pick up the theme with From Peasant to Royalty: Walking in Your True Identity.
Until then, this episode leaves listeners with a powerful truth:
Your stars can change because your God never stops writing new stories.
