Faith and Recovery + the Supernatural: My Deep-Dive Interview.

Recently, I had the privilege of returning to Insights & Straight Talk with Rodd Duff—and this time, the conversation went deeper than anything we’ve explored together before.

In addition to sharing my story, we explored some topics that often come up on his show. Things like spiritual encounters, ancient beliefs, the mysteries of the unseen, and how they intersect with recovery and real life.

And it wasn’t just a conversation between the two of us.

Nearly 400 people joined live, asked questions, shared personal thoughts, and pushed the dialogue into places that were honest, raw, and deeply human. For almost two hours, we walked through topics people rarely speak openly about—but desperately want clarity on.

A Conversation That Started with Curiosity

Rodd opened the show reflecting on the uncertainty and tension our culture is experiencing. That led us into one of the oldest questions humanity has ever wrestled with:

Are we alone? And if not, who have people been encountering for thousands of years?

While I’m clear that I don’t have all the answers—and I never pretend to—I was honored to bring a Christian perspective grounded in grace, truth, and humility. My goal was simple: share what I do know from my own life, my own failures, and my own walk with God.

I told listeners exactly what I’ll tell you:

“I don’t have all the answers—but I do have a testimony.”

And that testimony is what God keeps using.

Sharing My Story Again—Honestly, Openly, and Without Fear

I recapped my journey through:

  • Growing up as a pastor’s kid

  • Becoming a “master chameleon” because of codependency

  • Developing a pornography addiction at sixteen

  • Carrying shame while serving faithfully in church

  • My first night at Celebrate Recovery

  • The moment everything broke open and God began healing what I was hiding

Every time I tell this story publicly, it’s a mixture of vulnerability and gratitude. Not because I enjoy recounting it—but because someone listening always needs to hear it.

This was no exception.

As questions poured in, people wanted to know:

  • “Why do spiritual encounters seem to happen during our darkest moments?”

  • “How do you tell the difference between imagination and something real?”

  • “Can angels still show up today?”

  • “What does God do with our deepest pain?”

And I answered as honestly as I could—not as an expert, but as someone who has lived through both darkness and divine intervention.

One Question That Hit Hard

Someone asked:

“Why do we feel God’s presence most in our lowest moments?”

My answer was simple:
Because that’s where we finally stop pretending.

That’s where the mask drops.
That’s where the addiction loses its grip.

That’s where pride breaks.

That’s where control ends.

And it’s in that space—when we no longer have the strength to save ourselves—that God steps in and says:

“Let me carry this. You were never meant to hold it alone.”

I shared how that happened to me the night I walked into Celebrate Recovery.

A single question—“Is there anything else?”—changed the entire trajectory of my life.

That question wasn’t planned. It wasn’t in the script.

But it was exactly what I needed in that moment.

Honesty Brings Healing. Silence Brings Chains.

We talked openly about why secrecy keeps people sick—and why dragging truth into the light is so often the beginning of freedom. Not shame. Not punishment. Not rejection.

Freedom.

And based on the reaction from the live chat, it resonated with a lot of people.

The Bigger Picture: Faith, Mystery, and Humanity

Rodd and I also explored why so many ancient cultures describe similar spiritual encounters—light, messengers, voices, guidance, and moments beyond explanation.

I didn’t try to solve mysteries God hasn’t revealed.
I stayed centered on what Scripture teaches and what I’ve lived through personally.

My message was simple:

“We may not understand everything—but God meets us in our questions, not just our certainties.”

What I Hope People Took Away

Whether you tuned in live or are reading this recap now, here’s my heart:

  • You are not your past.

  • You are not disqualified.

  • You are not alone.

  • You are not beyond God’s reach.

If anything in this conversation stirred something in you, that’s not an accident.

God often speaks the loudest when the world feels the most chaotic.

Lean in.
Don’t run.
Your story isn’t over—not even close.
