Celebrate Recovery Testimony: Mike’s Redemption Story
A gripping Celebrate Recovery testimony—Mike shares how Jesus redeemed a life marked by addiction, violence, prison, and shame, and turned head knowledge into heart-level faith.
“I’m good” became my favorite lie.
When people asked how I was, I hid behind humor, hard work, and ministry. It felt safer than admitting I was struggling to trust God.
But what feels safe can quietly become a prison. The longer you wear a mask, the heavier it gets.
We don’t hide because we’re deceitful; we hide because we’re afraid of rejection, misunderstanding, or judgment.
Adam’s confession in Genesis 3:10 captures it: “I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Shame changes us. It convinces us that being truly known means being unloved. Yet the mask that protects us from rejection also prevents connection. We trade intimacy for image.
I once led groups teaching grace I didn’t feel worthy to receive. Outwardly strong, inwardly fractured. Psalm 32 describes it well: “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away.”
The cost of pretending is peace—and the first payment is joy.
The enemy whispers, “Keep it together and you’ll fix it later.”
But Jesus says transformation happens in the light (John 3:20-21). Exposure isn’t humiliation—it’s healing.
Isolation is the enemy’s workshop. Honesty is God’s invitation.
When I finally confessed, the response I feared—rejection—never came.
Instead, I heard: “You’re not alone.”
That sentence changed everything.
Healing rarely starts with a miracle; it often begins with a conversation.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 calls us to comfort others with the same comfort we’ve received. That’s real community—not perfect people, but honest ones.
Peace replaces performance when we drop the act.
God never needed your perfection; He wants your presence.
Freedom isn’t never falling again—it’s choosing not to fall alone.
Pray for courage: “Lord, show me one place I’ve been hiding.”
Write what the mask has cost you.
Tell one trusted person.
Grace can do what fear never could.
